Qualifications

I completed my Degree of Bachelor of Science with Honours in Speech & Language Therapy from The City University, London, in July 2005.

Upon graduating I worked within the NHS for over 7 years - throughout this time I was committed to my development as a Therapist, keen to provide the best service for my clients. I developed as a Generalist Specialist (band 6) for the Under 5s, working with a wide range of clients, whose primary medical diagnosis (e.g. Hearing Impairment, Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Downs Syndrome) or specific communication difficulty, affected some or all of their skills in attention and listening, play, understanding language, talking, speech sound production, and social skills. I spent my last two years in the NHS developing as a Specialist for the Deaf (birth – 18 years of age).

Current work & Professional Development

I worked privately setting up VeriVoice for 10 years, and I am now working two roles: one within the NHS again and the other is continuing the VeriVoice private SLT practice. I remain passionate about this profession and its vital role in the lives of those needing communication support - this passion inspired and enabled me to set up VeriVoice.

It is a priority for me to keep up to date with professional development and over the years I have attended many excellent courses:

  • It Takes Two To Talk (Hanen)

  • Parent Child Interaction training (in-house NHS)

  • Makaton - course 1

  • Makaton - course 2

  • Effective Counselling Skills for Speech & Language Therapists (City Lit)

  • Johansen IAS Training (Johansen IAS)

  • Nuffield Dyspraxia training (Nuffield)

  • The Little Group approach - working with children with social communication difficulties (in-house NHS)

  • Active Matters for Speech, Language & Communication (Lala Manners of Active Matters)

  • Working with Deaf People - part 1 (CSD consultants)

  • Working with Deaf People - part 2 (CSD consultants)

  • VERVE Child Interaction Training (Keena Cummins)

  • Level 1 British Sign Language (Signature)

  • Level 2 British Sign Language (Signature)

  • The Lidcombe Program - stammering therapy course (Lidcombe)

  • The SCERTS model - a comprehensive educational approach for children with Autism Spectrum Disorders

I continue to develop my skills as a Specialist in Hearing Impairment / Deafness. I passed my Level 2 in British Sign Language (BSL) in 2013, took further training in 2014 and 2015, and continue to seek further development through regular supervision with an SLT peer group and 1:1 specialist supervision with an SLT Consultant.
